Height: 30cm Spread: 50cm Growing Conditions: Full Sun Full Sun/Part Shade Common Name: Twin Spur Flower Pronunciation: Variety Profile A spectacular floral display begins in spring, completely smothering foliage in brightly coloured flowers. The abundant floral performance repeats itself through summer and well into autumn providing non-stop colour for much of the year. Diascias form a genus of around 50 species from South Africa and are so called because they have two 'spurs' (in Greek - di - ascia,) at the back of their flowers. Flowers of the species are generally in shades of pink although new cultivars have broadened the colour spectrum (some shown below) as well as improved habit, hardiness and lengthened flowering periods. Successive waves of flowers often make it difficult to see the neat foliage below throughout the warmer months. Cultural Care Medium water usage. Once established requires occasional long soak during extended periods of heat. Easy to grow in most soil types. A light prune after main flowering will encourage faster rebloom. Apply a slow release fertiliser in spring when a prune to shape and improve overall vigour and performance. Plant Uses Grows quickly for establishing fast results in new garden landscapes. These particular varieties were bred to be hardier in garden situations. Long lasting colour for mixed or perennial borders. Excellent for container displays - mixed or individually. Suited to cottage or wildflower style gardens. Great filler for small spaces. Can be mass planted as a colourful ground cover.
