Variety Profile
A deep coloured and compact form of a popular and highly ornamental shrub which provides a prolific display of miniature hibiscus-like flowers for much of the year
A dark band of burgundy flaring outwards from the centre of each bloom further intensifies the overall appeal of this rewarding shrub with flowering occuring most of the year round including the cooler months when little else can be found in flower.
Anisodonteas are beautiful imports from South Africa where the climate is similar to our own. Each clear pink flower is almost 4cm in diameter, twice the size of many other species in the genus. The similarity to hibiscus is not accidental as anisodonteas belong to the same family, Malvaceae. With a decisive pruning once a year, when there is a pause in flowering, it will maintain its vigour and compactness for many years of pleasure.

Cultural Care
Pruning back by one third during autumn will increase flower production and maintain vigour and compactness. Applications of slow release fertilisers in late winter and mid summer will also benefit. Prefers a well drained soil in a full sun location and will appreciate occasional deep watering during dry periods. Protect from harsh frost while young.

Plant Uses
Small evergreen shrubs are some of the most useful plants for any garden because they are so versatile - ideal for filling in gaps in the border or for planting in containers. A. 'African Prince' not only offers all this but also the pretty floral display which lasts for most of the year.
A particularly great plant for small gardens but suitable for most garden styles and sizes. Use as a background shrub amongst smaller perennials in garden borders. Can also be used as an informal, low hedge.
